 Myfish CASE STUDIES

CaseStudy The Myfish project aims to provide an operational framework for the implementation of the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) concept in European waters. As part of the project, a review of existing and proposed MSY variants, constraints and management measures outside EU borders was carried out by Myfish project partners from AquaMarine Advisers (Sweden) and Innovative Fisheries Management (Aalborg University, Denmark). Stakeholders from Australia, Alaska and the Faroe Islands were interviewed to investigate various aspects of sound governance from which the EU can potentially learn.

SOCIOEC Final Symposium

The final SOCIOEC symposium entitled ‘Socio-Economic Impacts of Management Measures of the new Common Fisheries Policy’ will be held in the Royal Flemish Academy for Sciences and the Arts, Brussels from 17 February 2015 (from 14.00hrs) - 18 February 2015. The symposium will adopt a participatory approach. Policy experts and fisheries researchers will provide scene-setting presentations on hot topics. This will be followed by a combination of open discussion, expert panels, facilitated debates and breakout sessions to ensure all participants get an opportunity to engage and contribute. The hot topics up for discussion include; assessment of the new CFP and the social and economic impact of new management measures, regionalisation of fisheries management and impacts of the Landing Obligation.

This event is relevant to decision and policy makers, fisheries managers, fisheries industry representatives, researchers, environmental NGOs, and other stakeholders concerned with the sustainable development of the sector.
